Is Pest Control Safe for Children and Pets? A Health & Safety Guide

In short

  • Use a provider that applies only CIB&RC-approved products, with trained technicians.
  • Gel baits for cockroaches need no vacating and are placed out of reach.
  • For sprays, stay out of treated rooms until surfaces are dry, usually about two hours.

Cockroaches, rodents and mosquitoes carry real health risks: food contamination, allergies, and diseases such as dengue and leptospirosis. Professional pest control exists to protect health. Done properly, it does that without putting the people inside the building at risk.

What makes a treatment safe

  • Products approved by India's CIB&RC
  • Correct dilution, never "extra strong"
  • Targeted application, not blanket spraying
  • Gel baits in cracks, away from reach
  • Trained technicians in protective gear
  • Clear re-entry and clean-up advice

Before the visit

  1. Store food and utensilsKeep them in closed cabinets or the fridge.
  2. Move pets and their bowlsFish tanks should be covered and the air pump switched off during spraying.
  3. Tell the technicianAbout infants, pregnancy, asthma or allergies in the home so the plan can be adjusted.

After the visit

Ventilate treated rooms, wipe kitchen counters before cooking, and avoid washing treated skirting or cracks for a few days so the treatment keeps working. Gel spots should not be wiped away.

The safest treatment is the most targeted one: the right product, in the right place, in the right amount.

In hospitals, schools and food businesses

Sensitive sites need low-odour products, treatment schedules around patients or students, and documentation for every visit. Our corporate AMCs are built around these requirements for hospitals such as Fortis and Artemis, and for food and pharmaceutical sites.
